AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for month-end close including account analysis and reconciliations for all locations as well as ownership of key SOX controls. This person must be a self-starter who can solve complex situations that arise, along with the ability to analyze the root cause of the problem and identify sustainable solutions. This person must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced ever-changing environment.

  • Participate in month-end close process by performing analysis and preparing journal entries

  • Investigates and resolves any accounting issues within area of responsibility

  • Manage complex prepaid expenses

  • Recommends and reviews proposed process improvements. Explores the modification of changes in systems and procedures

  • Support all financial related audits including compliance, internal and external audits and SOX

  • Participate in the implementation of revenue gross to net adjustment process

  • Specific projects and other ad hoc assignments as required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Required

  • Five to seven years accounting experience - preferred minimum 2 years of public accounting experience, preferably Big 4 or large regional firm

  • ERP Experience required

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP required

  • CPA preferred

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Strong understanding of internal controls, including direct experience with SOX compliance

  • Advanced abilities in Excel

  • Pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
